Former doctor accused of soliciting sex

A Greensburg, Pennsylvania, man, who was previously stripped of his medical license, has waived his preliminary hearing relating to a sex-for-prescriptions offer to a minor.

The 60-year-old man faces a variety of charges, including criminal solicitation of someone less than 16 years of age, promoting prostitution of a minor, indecent assault, corruption of minors, criminal communication and unlawful contact with a minor.

According to police, a 15-year-old girl was contacted by the doctor on Facebook in which she was offered a "win-win" scenario that involved trading drugs for contact, starting with nothing more than an image. Once reported to police, an officer took over the girl's social media account.

Over time, it was clear that the man was going to provide money and possibly drugs in exchange for sexual favors.

The former doctor declined a plea deal, with his defense attorney believing that there is enough evidence to show a different side of the story.

The judge also denied a motion to reduce bond, with fears that the man will attempt to contact the girl and/or her family. In the near future, the case will move to the Westmoreland County Court of Common Pleas.

There is no denying the fact that all medical professionals have a high level of responsibility, especially those who are able to provide medication. Unfortunately, there are people out there who understand this, which can lead to a situation in which there is a misunderstanding. In the end, this often means that the medical professional is put in a compromising position, which can include trouble with the law.
