Naked man arrested in pigsty says: I just like pigs

A 64-year-old Pennsylvania man has been hit with a litany of criminal charges after he was found in a pig pen naked and drunk. The man had previously been banned from the very same pig pen, but he returned, and police arrested him for it. The man had been told not to return to the property back in March 2011.

Police were notified that the man was trespassing in late June. After authorities arrived, they said he was in the pig barn without his clothes on, and he was playing with several full-grown hogs. Police asked the man why he was in the barn and he said, "I just like pigs." He also told officers he had just finished drinking a six-pack of Hamm's beer while playing with the pigs.

The man has since been released from jail after paying $25,000 in bail. However, he will be returning to court later this month to answer the charges of criminal trespass, indecent exposure, public drunkenness and defiant trespass.

The unique circumstances of this man's arrest are certainly embarrassing. However, all defendants deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. Indeed, if one focuses on the individual criminal charges brought against this man, they are not unique at all.

Numerous Pennsylvania residents are charged with indecent exposure, trespassing and public drunkenness every week. These individuals -- including the man in this case -- will have the right to assert criminal defense strategies in court. A successful criminal defense could help accused individuals reduce the severity of punishments and/or get one or all of their charges dropped or dismissed.
