Father and daughter face criminal charges in Pennsylvania

Operating a motor vehicle in Pennsylvania is a privilege, not a right. Laws are in place to ensure the safety of all in or near our roadways. When these laws are violated, a serious car accident can result. In some circumstances, this can result in criminal charges for those accused of violating the law.

In a recent incident, a 15-year-old unlicensed driver apparently caused an accident that result in three deaths. Allegedly, the girl's father gave her permission to drive the vehicle on her own. Supposedly, the girl was going to bring her father a breakfast sandwich. The other passengers in the vehicle were all teenagers, including three 15-year-old boys who died at the scene of the crash.

Apparently, the girl may have been driving too fast. Her passengers were said to have been screaming at her to slow down. Police recovered video evidence showing the group of minors climbing into the vehicle just before the fatal accident. Prior to the tragedy, the girl had only driven the vehicle while her father was present in the car.

The father is now facing Pennsylvania criminal charges stemming from the fatal incident. The police charged him with involuntary manslaughter as well as a variety of other accusations. The daughter is facing separate charges in juvenile court. The three deaths that this tragic accident caused mandate that every reasonable effort be made to protect the legal rights of both the father and daughter as they each navigate the criminal justice system. While it remains to be seen how these proceedings will be resolved, each individual remains innocent before the court unless and until prosecutors are able to provide competent and relevant proof of their guilt with regard to every element of the charges filed.
