Pennsylvania man faces drug-related criminal charges in death

Pennsylvania police and rescue workers were summoned to a home in late September of last year. They recently announced that a 41-year-old Chambersburg man faces criminal charges in regard to a woman's death. The man was arrested and later released on bail. He is awaiting further proceedings in this case.

The 45-year-old woman was found dead by emergency services workers in her home. According to the autopsy report, the major contributing factor in her death was heroin. Pennsylvania authorities indicated that the man gave two accounts of what transpired on the night the woman died. The man is alleged to have told police that he and the woman had been drinking that evening and that she eventually passed out.

Later, he is said to have confessed that he bought the drugs and shared them with her. Police say that the man admitted supplying the illegal substance to the woman and that he suspected the heroin was potent due to its dark coloration. He also allegedly claimed to have checked on the woman later in the evening and that she felt cool to the touch. At that point, he requested EMS personnel come to the home.

He faces two felony drug-related criminal charges in connection with the woman's death. His defense team may focus on the alleged statements that the man gave to the police, particularly if it appears that he may have been under duress at the time or was not fully informed of his legal rights before speaking with Pennsylvania authorities. He will need to understand what defense options may be useful as this criminal case heads to trial. The burden of proof in this case is on the government to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that this man actually committed the criminal offenses of which he has been accused.
