Pennsylvania man convicted of drunk driving charges a dozen times

Sometimes, people find themselves in situations and don't necessarily have the ability or the coping mechanisms to make the right choices. One Pennsylvania man who may struggle with alcohol addiction has just been convicted on drunk driving charges for the eighth time in 10 years. It was his 12 DUI conviction overall.

The latest conviction followed after the 48-year-old man was arrested last summer for operating his motorcycle the wrong way on a one way street. He was stopped by officers after a bystander reported the incident. When the man submitted to a Breathalyzer test, police claimed that the level of alcohol in his system was .282. Pennsylvania law has set the legal limit for blood alcohol level at .08. The man's level of intoxication exceeded that permitted by state law by more than three times.

According to the court records, the man has been arrested and convicted a total of 12 times for DUI offenses. This past time, he was also found to be a habitual offender. This categorization applies to those who have had more than three DUIs or other offenses. He is scheduled to be sentenced by the judge presiding over his case later this summer.

There may be options that could mitigate this man's possible punishment. The focus of the man's criminal defense concerning the drunk driving charges must now be directed at attempting to convince the court to fashion a sentence unique to the man's individual circumstances. It may well be that an argument will be made to the judge to emphasize some form rehabilitation, as opposed to a jail term, in view of the man's apparent struggle to cope with a drinking problem.
