76 arrested on drug charges in narcotics sting

Resulting from a drug sting in Schuylkill County, a total of 76 individuals were arrested on various charges. These individuals face drug charges for their alleged involvement in the distribution of narcotics throughout the area. The Pennsylvania authorities also suspect that many of the individuals are affiliated with gangs.

The investigation supposedly began 12 months ago, and it utilized the efforts of the Shenandoah Borough Police Department as well as the Pennsylvania State Police. The exact reason for the investigation is unclear, but the authorities claim that they suspected the individuals of being involved in the narcotics and firearms trade. The authorities were able to obtain all 76 arrest warrants over the 12-month period, and they also executed a number of search warrants.

Of the 76 arrested, 35 are accused of delivery of a controlled substance, 28 are accused of possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance and eight face possession of a controlled substance charges. Four more individuals face drug possession charges, and one last person was charged with criminal attempt. The ages of those arrested ranged from 18 to 50 years old. The authorities suspect that some of those arrested have violent gang affiliations, so it is unclear whether additional charges will be filed.

Anytime a large number of individuals are arrested for drug charges after a sting operation, those individuals would do well to scrutinize each and every aspect of the arrest process to ensure that proper procedure was followed. Regardless of any evidence the Pennsylvania authorities may claim to have against these persons, they each remain innocent before the court. In order to prevent the possibility of convicting an innocent person, the law requires that each charge be proved by an intentionally high measure of proof.
