Pennsylvania man sentenced after conviction on drug charges

Recently, a U.S. District Court judge ordered a Pennsylvania man to serve 20 years in a federal penitentiary, with an additional 10 years of supervised release once his prison term is completed. The man was convicted on multiple drug charges. The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the IRS and FBI.

The 44-year-old man was convicted for his role in an illegal drug operation that reportedly had a widespread distribution. He was arrested more than three years ago, along with 15 other suspected members. Based upon recorded phone conversations, agents claimed that the man made arrangements to have marijuana transported across the country. He was also accused of maintaining approximately 1,000 illegal plants over a several year span.

The drug operation reportedly included the distribution of cocaine and prescription medications, along with the sale of marijuana. Additionally, investigators collected audible evidence that named local businesses that allegedly brokered narcotic sales on the man's behalf. The charges included allegations that the man organized methods to launder funds used in his illicit operation.

Along with the prison sentence, the man was forced to relinquish more than $690,000 in cash as well as several real estate holdings and automobiles. It is unclear whether this Pennsylvania man intends to appeal his conviction with regard to the drug charges. In similar circumstances, all prior proceedings will be carefully reviewed in order to identify potential areas of legal challenge suitable for appeal. These issues may include allegations that certain legal rights were violated that infringed upon constitutional guarantees. The court's sentence may also be subject to review, particularly if the evidence suggests an unfair variation from the federal sentencing guidelines.
